How Sigur Rós announced new project with a cross-platform playlist
With Sigur Rós, famous post-rock band
monthly website sessions
It had been 15 years since Sigur Rós last played with an orchestra, and to announce their new collaboration with the LA Philarmonic, the band wanted to share a playlist that would give an idea of what the show would sound like.
“This is all new ground for us. it’s been 15 years since we last played with an orchestra, and that wasn’t even sigur rós songs. the shows at the disney hall sold out fast, and only 4,500 people can get to experience it in the room. so we thought it would be good to let anyone who couldn’t get tickets and people around the world have the opportunity to see how all it comes together.”
The problem Sigur Rós faced was to let fans know what this show would be about.
“There’s just one chance for us to rehearse with the l.a. phil ahead of time, so in all honesty we have no idea how this will going to go”.
Sigur Rós used Soundsgood to curate a playlist mixing both their original songs and tracks from the 8 LA Philarmonic composers who worked on the arrangements.
“It’s a little daunting to be honest, especially as this time we are playing actual sigur rós songs. that said, the early signs are encouraging, in that we have a slew of amazing new arrangements from an illustrious array of talents. eight composers have each chosen a song, and worked their magic on tracks from as far back as ágætis byrjun (1999) all the way through to new, unreleased material.”
The band created the playlist on Soundsgood which instantly distributed it across their official profiles in Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
The playlist was first embedded on Sigur Rós official website with the Soundsgood player.
It was then shared across all Sigur Rós social networks.
Thanks to the ability to share the playlist across all streaming platforms with Soundsgood, Sigur Rós has managed to promote in a creative way its upcoming project.
The only 4,500 concert tickets were sold out fast but the project got amplified for +40,000 listeners with a 75% engagement rate on the Soundsgood playlist. The Soundsgood player converted over 1200 new Spotify followers who can now replay the playlist when they want!
